Jacob's Tonsils Are Out

This is before surgery, he knew something was going to happen
Papa made things a little better by letting him take pictures.
This is proof that his Pa came and he is holding Jacob's build a bear.
Jacob calls him baby.

May 14th Jacob got his tonsils out. We went in at 6:45 am for a surgery at 7:45 am.

When it was time for us to part, I cried. Jacob cried.

The surgery went great! His tonsils and adenoids were huge. And they were able to clip his tongue also.

They said that they would come and get us as soon as he opens his eyes.

When they came to get us we were outside eating a little breakfast. The nurse said, he is awake.

So, we walk in to find him kicking and screaming... the same way that we left him when he went in for surgery. It was heart breaking to say the least.

I held him in my arms and sat on his bed, he calmed down immediately then fell back to sleep.

Pa left to get his prescriptions while we waited for the sleeping medicine to wear off. Jacob woke up a little and said, "Papa, sit here." as he pointed to where Papa was sitting before he fell asleep. He continued to ask for Papa.

He never got a popsicle at the surgery center, and it was really hard to get him to take a sip of water before we left.

The only blood I have seen so far is just two spots from his nose.

(David was coughing up blood and scabs... it was yucky.)

We were able to persuade Jacob to take his pain killer and antibiotic on Friday and Saturday. But when Sunday came around he wasn't budging. We forced it down on Sunday. But Sunday evening when he nearly choked on his antibiotic, I asked how important this really is?

Monday I called the office and asked if I really needed to force the medication down his throat. They said that he should be okay, we should give it to him but if he wont take it, we don't have to force it. Thank goodness! He was done and so was I.

The nurses were saying that it is odd that David was in pain for a week after surgery and that it should only be a couple of days.

Honestly, I don't know what planet they are from. But they just got part of their throat cut out of them. It is going to take time before it will feel better and heal.

Jacob is still waking up and crying at night and in the morning he is still having a hard time eating. When you think about it. When one is sleeping your throat dries out a bit. When you have a normal moist throat that turns dry, it is going to be uncomfortable. But when you have moist throat that also has scabs, just think about it... that has got to be very painful!

So, it has been fun at the Hardy Homestead. I haven't been getting the sleep that I would like to get, but this too shall pass.

I love being able to see his chest move the way it should when breathing in. I love that air passes well now.

The other night we were watching a movie, I was watching Jacob.

Jacob was putting his tongue between his teeth and his cheek. As I was watching him I couldn't help but laugh at the sensations he must be going through. One day you can't move your tongue around your mouth and then you can do tons of things. He also pushed his tongue against his cheek and proceeded to chew on it. Its like watching an infant discover their hands for the first time. Tons of fun!

Cracks

In January or February I had a crown put on a tooth that was cracked pretty bad. The last couple of weeks I have been having problems with the tooth, it has been sensitive to cold and hot and it has been throbbing.

I thought I would need to have a root canal done. So I went into the dentist office, we had a couple x-rays done. He was thinking that I might have an infection. But then he started to look at my teeth and poke at them and tell me to bite down on things. I didn't have any problems. He looked at my other teeth and said, "You grind your teeth at night." I said, "yes."

Turns out, I have cracks in lots of teeth. But... I didn't need to get a root canal.

He says that I grind my teeth and that causes pain, so I am wearing my mouth guard and I am feeling just fine.

Dentists ordered that I take like a little less serious, that things happen and we just need to roll with it. :)

Guess he is right.

Dyes

A couple of weeks ago we bought some "sugar" cereal. Not the norm for us, we usually get Cheerios or Life or granola.

The "sugar" cereal that I bought was Captin Crunch Berries, ya all know that when you eat that cereal you get GREEN coming out the other end. My kids all know it because when they start to eat any of these cereals they mention what will happen.

The purpose of this story is... My diaper wearing child ate the said cereal. The inside of his diaper was indeed green, as I wiped his cute little tush the DYE STAYED ON HIS BUM! Seriously, I could not get it off. Then I think... what is this stuff doing to the inside of our bodies?

Pa and I watched a movie called Food Inc. it is a very informative movie if you ever get a chance to watch it, it will really make you think about what you are eating.

And if anyone is interested I could point you in the right direction to get all natural beef.

It's Happening

I remember those times in school when all of a sudden something was so popular everyone wanted to do it.

Lately Emma has been talking about curly hair. She has always had a fascination with her hair being curly, but lately she has been talking about whose hair at school is the curliest. She has also been asking if I can curl her hair... usually at 9:30 or 10:00 at night. Why isn't she sleeping??

So, this morning when I dropped her off at school I noticed one of her classmates getting out of the van in front of us. What do you know?? Her hair was curled. I laughed out loud. I am glad it is just hair and not clothing, YET. Maybe tomorrow I will try out the flat iron curls.
