More March 2011

Jacob saw this picture and said,
"Mom, I like my toy's."
So, this photo had to be remembered.
Kids got ahold of the camera.
They take pictures of the most interesting things.

A Few Things

Sunday: I was in the mothers lounge nursing Bryan and Jacob was with us. Jacob witnessed a one year old boy get his diaper changed. As the diaper was going on Jacob said, "Look, Mom he has diapers like mine." Being the mean mom that I am I said, "He sure does and he is a baby, you are a big boy... you can wear underwear." Jacob looked at me very seriously and said, "Be nice Mama." I was then like the wide mouth frog that said, "oh."

Monday: Bryan went in for his two month check up. He is 12.3 pounds 80th percentile for his age and he is about 23 1/2 inches long 75%. I was in shock that he is so big, I am so glad that I see him as just a little guy still.

Tuesday: Today, David said that another kid at school said, "We should call you 'poo poo David'." David replied with, "P. U." The other kid just laughed and all was well. That was an awesome response David!!

Yoda

Jacob was given the nickname Yoda when he was very young because he has his mother's ears.
He hasn't been called Yoda since he was a baby.
But I do keep a Yoda toy in his memory box.

The other day Jacob was looking in the mirror and he said,
"Mom, I don't want these ears, can you take them off?"
I said,
"What? You don't like your ears?
But your ears are just like my ears...
They are cool!"
With that he looked and my ears and said,
"Oh."

New Stuff

If you have something new for the baby,
let the other children try it out.
What will it hurt?

We had a gift come to our home.
It was diapers and clothes for the new baby.
Jacob quickly looked at it and said,
"It fits me?"
I said, "no, it is for the baby."
He said, "no, it fits me."
So, he tried on the 0-3 month pants...

Stretching them out, because they do fit!

Pointing at them and saying,
"see, they do fit me."

They aren't even tight in the butt.

Poop

So, I've got the last load of laundry going. My 3 year old informs me that he just pooped in his underwear. I cleaned him up. Then my 8 year old comes in and says, "Mom, I just pooped in my panties." I say, "Oh, that is nice. You need to clean it up." So, she does. She has had diarrhea today.

Now, the laundry is a very exciting thing to almost accomplish!! Yeah, 3 cheers for me! But, now I am contemplating, the gross pooped on cloths are rinsed off really well, but they are gross... I should probably wash them too.

I am thankful that my 8 year old is fully capable of cleaning herself up.

I am very sad that my 3 year old is still pooping in his underwear EVERY SINGLE DAY!! I went to the dollar store this weekend and bought about 10 different really cool toys, and Jacob knows that he will be getting a really cool toy IF he goes poopy in the toilet. BUT HE JUST WONT DO IT!!!

This is what I have tried... In the beginning he would have an accident and I would say, "it's okay we will try to do better next time." My other children when they would have an accident it was like all h*** broke loose, I was so mad and I think they just had fear in them that if they had an accident they better do better next time.

So, I went from... "it's okay we will try to do better next time."
to,
"aw, Jacob this is sooo sad, where should your poop go? Ya, you're right it should go in the toilet. Next time will you go poopy in the toilet? Thank you Jacob, you are awesome!!"
then,
I tried crying.
then,
I tried dry heaving.
then,
I tried having a very sad face.
I've tried m and m's
I've tried stickers
I've tried reading books to him while he sits on the toilet.
I've tried making him clean himself up. He did it twice... then he just would stand in the bathroom and cry.
Now I am trying the toys.
HE JUST DOESN'T CARE!!

He goes potty just fine. He rarely has any accidents at night. And when he does it is because we forgot to have him go before bedtime.

I need to get the potty chair that I have in storage and see if pooping in something that won't splash on him would be more appealing.

Or... maybe I need to send him to Grandmas for a week???

Suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Even constructive criticism would be nice. We will be having a baby in about 2 months and I was really excited that I would only be changing that sweet newborn smelling diapers. I am getting really discouraged that I will be changing underwear also.

On a brighter note, at least he isn't doing this in public and at least it is usually just one time a day, I guess it could be worse.

Abigail and Jacob's Birthdays

My two youngest, as of right now have the same "birth" day just two years apart. So, their special day was in August. On their birthday we made cupcakes and just enjoyed being a family. Jacob was so excited that it was his birthday after watching cousins have birthday recently. He kept asking if it was his cousins' Alice birthday, I would tell him, "no, it is Jacob's birthday." He would jump up and down and say, "it's dadups (Jacob's) birfday?" This went on and on and on... Abby was so excited too. She got a little more attention than Jacob because she was able to go out with Grandma and Grandpa Hardy to Toys R Us to pick out her very own present. She picked out a battery operated dog that sleeps and has his own sleeping bag. She really likes it and loved the attention.

So, back to the cupcakes. We put one candle in a cupcake for Jacob and one candle it Abby's cupcake. After we sang and they blew out their candles, Jacob said, "More!" So we lit the candle again and again and again and again and again and again, you get the picture. Well, Jacob and Abby were successful in using the entire candle, all that was left of it was the piece that was inside the cupcake. Jacob had so much fun, he was laughing so hard, David wanted to 'help' blow out the candle so he would try and Jacob would blow it out first and he just thought it was so funny that he (Jacob) was in control. Abby loved the attention too, however she didn't get as excited about it.

Then we had another party that only a little bit of family was able to come to. This time I was able to make some fun cakes. Abby the princess castle, it was super easy to make and only took one cake to make it. I just really need to get some nice cake decorator stuff, frosting tips, etc. I used the kind of frosting that comes in a can and tried to make flowers on her cake and well, it didn't work like I would have liked it to.

Jacob's cake was an air plane and this only took one cake too. He has been loving air planes lately. Every time he sees one in the sky he asks if he can go in. I always tell him one day Jacob, one day.

Abby is getting so big, she picked out what she wanted to wear for her party probably 2 weeks before the party and she remembered and wore it. I was very impressed.

So here's to my children that are getting so big. Abby is 5 and Jacob is 3. WOW!

Jacob's Tonsils Are Out

This is before surgery, he knew something was going to happen
Papa made things a little better by letting him take pictures.
This is proof that his Pa came and he is holding Jacob's build a bear.
Jacob calls him baby.

May 14th Jacob got his tonsils out. We went in at 6:45 am for a surgery at 7:45 am.

When it was time for us to part, I cried. Jacob cried.

The surgery went great! His tonsils and adenoids were huge. And they were able to clip his tongue also.

They said that they would come and get us as soon as he opens his eyes.

When they came to get us we were outside eating a little breakfast. The nurse said, he is awake.

So, we walk in to find him kicking and screaming... the same way that we left him when he went in for surgery. It was heart breaking to say the least.

I held him in my arms and sat on his bed, he calmed down immediately then fell back to sleep.

Pa left to get his prescriptions while we waited for the sleeping medicine to wear off. Jacob woke up a little and said, "Papa, sit here." as he pointed to where Papa was sitting before he fell asleep. He continued to ask for Papa.

He never got a popsicle at the surgery center, and it was really hard to get him to take a sip of water before we left.

The only blood I have seen so far is just two spots from his nose.

(David was coughing up blood and scabs... it was yucky.)

We were able to persuade Jacob to take his pain killer and antibiotic on Friday and Saturday. But when Sunday came around he wasn't budging. We forced it down on Sunday. But Sunday evening when he nearly choked on his antibiotic, I asked how important this really is?

Monday I called the office and asked if I really needed to force the medication down his throat. They said that he should be okay, we should give it to him but if he wont take it, we don't have to force it. Thank goodness! He was done and so was I.

The nurses were saying that it is odd that David was in pain for a week after surgery and that it should only be a couple of days.

Honestly, I don't know what planet they are from. But they just got part of their throat cut out of them. It is going to take time before it will feel better and heal.

Jacob is still waking up and crying at night and in the morning he is still having a hard time eating. When you think about it. When one is sleeping your throat dries out a bit. When you have a normal moist throat that turns dry, it is going to be uncomfortable. But when you have moist throat that also has scabs, just think about it... that has got to be very painful!

So, it has been fun at the Hardy Homestead. I haven't been getting the sleep that I would like to get, but this too shall pass.

I love being able to see his chest move the way it should when breathing in. I love that air passes well now.

The other night we were watching a movie, I was watching Jacob.

Jacob was putting his tongue between his teeth and his cheek. As I was watching him I couldn't help but laugh at the sensations he must be going through. One day you can't move your tongue around your mouth and then you can do tons of things. He also pushed his tongue against his cheek and proceeded to chew on it. Its like watching an infant discover their hands for the first time. Tons of fun!

Kids

David woke up last night at 12:00, he had to wake me up to find out if he could go potty.  Of course I said yes all was well, he went back to bed.

David then woke up at 2:00 am.  He was crying uncontrollably, I went in asking what was wrong.  He said that he can't stop crying.  I asked if he had a bad dream.  He said that he did have a dream but it wasn't bad. He was crying so much that we had to wipe his nose.  He then calmed down and said very bluntly, "Mom, you can go now."  He laid back down and went right to sleep.

Abby woke up this morning because she wet the bed.  Luckily this happened while I was in the shower.  No lost sleep.

Jacob was sick all day yesterday.  All he wanted to do was snuggle and he had a fever.  We gave him this "Miracle Mineral Solution" (MMS), and a blessing.  He woke up this morning happy and ready to EAT!  (He hardly drank or ate anything yesterday.)

Poya

I have some really cute photo's to go with this, however... I don't think they are internet worthy.

Jacob really wants to start going poya (potty) on his own, but he doesn't want anyone around while he is experimenting with his potty powers.

So I stood around the corner of the bathroom and held the camera to take some really cute photo's of him.

After a while he realized I was there and he came out to push me away and say, "you go, mommy!"

I had to laugh, but it didn't stop him, thank goodness!  He still likes to try!

Good night my little pudding face, car loving boy!
I know there will be a day that I will miss this.

Abby and Jacob's Birthdays!

Abby and Jacob had a birthday.... and it has been a few months now. So, now Abby is 4 and Jacob is 2!
Abby is such a fun little girl. She can make anyone smile. We will be walking at the store, down the street, at church, etc. And Abby will have the biggest smile on her face. She is quick to wave and smile at everyone. Everyone!! Children, Parents, Elderly, Scruffy Men, and even the Ritzy!! And Everyone! Smiles back and comments on how CUTE she is. She has such a special spirit to her, that just makes ya feel good.
She is still very afraid though. She will not go to class at church and if we make her go she ends up screaming one of those screams that says she is really truly afraid. I just can't figure out why she is so afraid and why did it start when she was just a baby.
She gets picked on a lot from her big brother and sister. But she can also dish it out very well.
She is always hungry, always! Yet she wont eat what she is given, we have a lot to work on with that one. Sometimes she wont eat what she asks for.

Jacob is 2, I can't believe that my youngest is 2. He is such a little ham. Always getting into trouble. He loves to climb. He loves balls and cars. When he has a hard time getting into his car seat we give him a car and he is happy as can be. He loves to work, whenever Pa or I are working in the yard we are sure that Jacob will be out there with a shovel in hand, or asking for cloves so he can be just like us. He loves to wear shoes. The minute he wakes up in the morning he is asking for shoes sometimes before he is even out of bed. He still climbs into bed with us at night. He thinks it is soo funny to let the chickens out of their run. He also likes to go in and terrorize the chickens that are trying to lay eggs. He walks into the coop and just screams as loud as he can. The chickens usually protest and cluck back at him. He loves to terrorize everyone else too. You can catch him chasing his sister around the house, just so he can hear them scream. He loves his brother David, if David is doing something you can be sure that Jacob is watching, learning, and laughing!

These two were born on the same day 2 years apart.

Grandma and Grandpa Hardy came over before the party.

dolls name is Robin

We made a doll cake for Abby, Emma put on the candles. She did real well keeping the flame away from the dolls hair.
Jacob loves cars so he got a "road cake" with a car and a bike.
David is not too fond of cake, he had about 4 or 5 servings of ice cream.
He was very happy!

David really needs a dog. He was rough housing with anyone he could.
Thanks to everyone who came and thank you for the gifts and helping eat all of those cakes!!

Slobbery Kisses

I was sitting on the couch about to fall asleep when Jacob comes in with his big spiderman car. He stopped by the couch. Climbed up to me and gave me a slobbery kiss on the cheek. Just what I needed.
He was so happy that I was very thankful that he kept coming back to give kisses.
Such a cute boy.

Oh, Emma is now sick... coughing up a storm. I am glad that I have a little more energy to help her with her needs. Isn't that how it works, we don't get it all at once, it has to drag out!!

HAPPY

Jacob's new favorite word this last week has been....

Happy

Big emphasis on H.  And the Y is drug out.

And always a HUGE SMILE!

We ask, "Jacob, are you Happy?"

Then he gets on his kick, saying happy over and over and over again.  -Ma

"They" say...

that the biggest fear for little children is abandonment.  Kids are terrified that they will be left behind.

"They" say that all it takes is one time for a child to feel or think that they have been left alone to have abandonment issues for the rest of their lives.  And really they wont even know why.

With that being said, I went with my M.I.L. to a store.  Jacob was in the back seat. Upon arriving Jacob yelped out, "MAMA!"  I kind of chuckled because I remembered he was there, in the back seat but he was worried that I did not remember.

But then I was a little sad that little ones have this fear.  -Ma

Dried Baby

June 12, 2009

Jacob thinks the dryer is great!!  As soon as I pull the clothes out of the dryer, he thinks he needs to jump in.  Then he laughs and laughs!!

That is, he laughs until I walk away.  Then he realizes that he can't get out without Ma's help!!
Funny boy! -Ma

Ouch!

June 11, 2009

As sad as it is boys will get hurt.

Jacob is our little helper.  If we are working on ANYTHING, he is there with us.
When this happened he was helping me clean out our tent trailer, we were getting it ready to sell.  I had a piece of metal on the floor.  I had that sweet voice from inside tell me that someone could get hurt on that sharp metal and that I should move it.  So, I spoke back, in my head and said, "I will just put this away and then I will get the metal."
I turned around to put away that "something else" and I heard screaming.  Jacob fell on the metal item.  Hardly any blood, but he had this deep gash on his leg.
Quickly we went inside to clean it and put a bandage on.
I put a butterfly band aid on because it was a wide cut and it looked like if I didn't get it to hold together he would end up with a yucky scar.

Looking at in now over a month later, I am so glad I did.  He has a scar but it is thin compared to what it could have been.
Just a side note.  After putting on the butterfly band aide I put on a larger band aid to keep him from taking the "important" band aid off.

In this photo he was so excited that I was taking his picture.
He would point to his cut and say "ouch", really slow.

We went to the library to wait in line for the free culture pass.
I wanted to take Emma to the zoo because her birthday was coming up.
While waiting in line I talked with a couple mothers who were in front of me, I told them that I really wanted to take my kids to the zoo because it was going to be Emma's birthday.
David was running with the said lady's boys.
When he fell, H A R D.

He has never fallen this hard before.
I ran to the van to get the "doctor kit".
Cleaned him up, put band aids on.  Then I listened to him cry saying that he wants to go home.
I just couldn't take him home we only had 5 more minutes till the library was to open, we were close in line and we were going to get the zoo pass!!

A librarian comes out to tell us not to run anyone over and that we need to be kind... blah blah blah.  Then he gives us some shocking news.  He said that from here on out they will not be putting all of the passes out at one time, they will stagger the times that they put out the passes.
I thought, "great, I should still be able to get the pass and get out of here.
So, the doors are opened and the crowd, now more eager than before makes there way into the library.
The kids and I walk closer and closer to the shelf thingy that they put the passes on, I see the ZOO PASS
I pick up my pace to get to it with a hurt child.
I was almost to the wanted pass when the lady that was in front of me, (the mother of the child that was running with David) is on the other side of the shelf thingy, without showing her face she reaches her hand around the shelf and she grabbed the last ZOO PASS!

The lady stood up, straitened her clothes.  Looks at me like she won the battle and said, "Oh, I don't think they put all the passes out this time.  I think this was the ONLY ZOO PASS."

I look at David and said, "I am so sorry I made you wait here for nothing.  Lets go home."

Not that I was entitled to the pass, but she was not very nice about it.  She looked at me down her nose.

On our way home David said, "Ya know why I fell Mom?"
I said, "No Dave, why did you fall?"
David said, "It was because of that boy, he made me fall, he made me run."
I responded, "And you know what.  His mom took the last zoo ticket too!!"
Hmm.  -Ma

Tender Moment

Pa is in the Elders Quorum Presidency at church.  So he has a meeting each week.  It just so happened that tonight was one of those meetings.  He got dressed in a white shirt and tie and went out the door.

Tender hearted and no nap today Jacob was right behind his Pa.

So, I opened the locked door for the little guy and let him say his sad goodbyes.

As Pa drove off Jacob had alligator tears streaming down his little face and arms reaching out in hopes that his Pa would come back.

When Jacob realized his Pa was going to be gone for some time he thought he would try something else.

He wanted his shirt off.  We removed it.

Then he asked me to follow him to his room.  He pointed at his Sunday shirt.

I really thought he was pointing to something else so I held him up and asked what he wanted.

He really wanted his Sunday shirt on and he shed more tears when I told him that he wasn't going to be wearing that shirt tonight.

He has now come to grips with staying home, but I think it is bedtime.  -Ma

Mud

April 26, 2009

Sometime after church I went out back to tend to the chickens and garden.  I watered the part of the garden that doesn't get enough water pressure, and the orange tree.  This is where Jacob discover what fun it is to stomp little feet into a puddle of muddy water.  He is in his Sunday clothing.  I didn't get a good shot of his face but he looked so happy just stomping away.

Here is an extremely short video, but you can kind of see his excitement.  I didn't know I had the camera on video... ooops!

Whooo Hoooo

I'm Freeee!!!

I have always been a person that only wanted to nurse my kids till they turned one.  I must have needed some learnin' to be done, cause this little guy went 6 months longer.

As of last Friday we said good bye to those nightly "snuggle" times.

Here is how it was done.

Pa and I got to go out on a much needed date night.  Jacob fell asleep there and to our surprise he stayed asleep when we arrived home.

Saturday night I went to the adult session of Stake Conference.  Pa got him asleep.

Wow I thought, this can be done!!

Sunday night.  I held him as I finished up some chores around the house.  He fell asleep in my arms.

Monday night he fell asleep in my bed watching the news.

And it goes on to be about the same through out the week.

Side note, I am not one that likes the whole cry it out routine with my kids.  It breaks my heart!

Last night there was a little bit of the head banging and body slamming.  But he seems to be doing well.

And me?  Well, I am doing great!  It is so nice not to have to worry about teeth.  -Ma
