However, shortly after writing that post he became a normal Hardy baby. He started having issues being constipated. He only likes sleeping when I hold him, if I try to put him down he wakes. Also within a three week time span he spit up blood.
I decided I better get to a GI Doctor. We went to the doctor last Friday April 15. She didn't seem concerned with the issue I thought she should be concerned about. She did give him lactulore to help him poop. The next morning he did go but Wednesday night (20th) we had to give him a suppository because he couldn't sleep and he was in pain.
What is the doctor more concerned about? She thinks he has an allergy to something. She asks the question, "Do you want to continue nursing?" I really want to it is cheeper and easer to nurse. So, I had to alter my diet. No more dairy or soy. This doesn't mean just stay away from drinking milk and eating cheese and spreading butter. This means that I have to be a LABEL READER! I couldn't believe it, I DON'T READ LABELS! I eat what I like and don't think about what it is. Okay, that is hard to admit, I am a bit shameful of that. But it is hard to go from eating anything to WATCHING what I eat.
So, what it really means to not ingest dairy or soy... I can no longer eat bread unless I make it. I can't eat chocolate, tortillas, the only crackers I can find so far are saltines, no more granola bars, and NO MORE PIZZA unless of course I make basil pizza... that is yummy!!
I started this new diet Friday April 15. Then comes Friday April 22, Bryan cried for 4 hours straight. That was NOT normal. If he cries all I have to do is look at him and smile then he is happy again. So sad to report, I ate EGGS for dinner the night before. My little one is allergic to eggs! We have chickens, how could he be allergic? Well he is, so now I can't make "normal" pancakes I have to make a substitution for eggs. The pancakes came out more dense, but good still.
Now my diet is, no dairy, soy, eggs and nuts.
How is the little guy doing you may ask? Well the first Monday after seeing the doctor, I got my baby back. He would go down for naps again and he would sleep for 2 to 3 hours. He enjoys laying in his crib just so he can look around and play. He is beautiful!
How am I doing with the "diet"? I am so surprised with myself. I can stay away from the half eaten sandwiches, the chocolate the kids leave behind. I am learning that I don't have to eat what is in front of me. It has been a blessing for me to learn this. I can have will power. The only times I have cravings is when I walk through a bakery or when I am really hungry. Oh, I have learned how to make hummus... because in the store they have soy in it... oh another thing, who would have thought that tuna has soy???
Oh well, I have a happy baby and I am losing weight. Life is good.

Nursing is also good for the psychological bond, among other things, you would have to ask Laura.
Soy sauce is so good in hummus and on Thai peanut pizza and on...well, living without soy would be hard for me, I tell ya!
For the pancake recipe I gave you, you can replace the egg with a fruit sauce (like apple sauce, smashed bananas) and I believe some a little extra baking powder (ask me if you're interested). You can also replace it with ground flax, I believe - if I remember right.
Oh, Jenny, I'm so sorry! I did an elimination diet with Raya where it was easier to list the foods that I WAS able to eat than the ones I wasn't. It was SOOO not fun. That was when I realized just how much our lives center around food. (like when we went to a wedding reception with a full Mexican food buffet & luscious cake that I couldn't eat!) Honestly though, I had absolutely zero regrets with it during the diet and I would do it all over again if it meant I could have kept breastfeeding. You're a good mom to do that for him. There are a lot of good recipes for people with food allergies online too so maybe you could get some ideas of what you can eat so you wouldn't feel so restricted. Good luck!
