Toothless David

December 22, 2009

David lost his second tooth.  He was soooo excited!  After watching his sister get little gifts from the tooth fairy he could barley contain himself that whole day.  But, unfortunately  he didn't mention a thing about the tooth fairy coming to visit right before he drifted off into dream land.

You see I rely on their excitement, so I can remember that the tooth fairy need to arrive that night.  There are parent preparations in letting the tooth fairy in ya know.

David woke up the next morning with tears in his eyes, stating that the tooth fairy didn't come.  That she forgot him.

Oh, I was CRUSHED!  Maybe even more than him.  I went into Pa with tears in my eyes, telling him that the tooth fairy didn't' make it.  Pa asked where David was, he was in bed with his face buried in his pillow.

So, Pa said that the tooth fairy can still make it if we help her in.

She was able to get in there and give him a fairy bill and a figurine from Batman.

So, later that morning I went in and asked him if he was okay.

He sat up with his lower lip out and just as sad as could be.  (this is very odd for David, he usually doesn't let anything get to him.  So, it really broke my heart to see him this way)

So I looked at a  pillow next to him and said, "David, what is that under you Diego pillow?"

He looked and he found it, the magic that enters into childhood.  The tooth fairy DID come.  He was not forgotten!

He was sleeping on, I think it was 4 or 5 standard pillows.  How he slept I do not know, but the tooth fairy wasn't able to get his tooth out from under so many pillows.  He was saddened by this, but I let him know that the pillows were just too heavy for her to get under.

The tooth was handed to his Mother and he then lived Happily Ever After.

Oh, and by the way... He has serious doubts about Santa being real, but the tooth fairy... shoot, she's gotta be real!!  Love this kid!

Kids Quotes August '09 to December '09

August 2009

Jacob had a stinky diaper. Ma said, "p-ew!!" Jacob said, "p- yum!"

September 2009

We were at a store, when Abby started talking to an elderly couple. The lady said, "Do you know that you are very
pretty?"
Abby's response was, "I know that."
So the lady said, "You have beautiful blonde hair. Where did you get it from?"
Abby after a long pause said, "Um, Jesus made it for me."

After a few more conversations with them. They were asking all of the kids who they were married to. Unusual I thought but I went with it, and asked Abby who she was going to marry.
Abby said, after much training, "I am going to marry a boy that treats me like a princess."
Then I asked, "And what will Mama do if he doesn't treat you like a princess?"
Abby said, "My Mama will kick his BUM!"
You've been warned boys, you've been warned!!

October 2009

Mom said, "You want a Hot dog?"
Jacob said, "Hot D"

November 2009

"Emma is thankful for China for making everything."

David, "What's a teenager?"
Emma, "A teenager is a kid who thinks they know everything, but really they don't. Isn't that right Mom?"

Parent Teacher Conference

A few months ago we had PTA.  It is always fun to hear about what my kids are doing and what they are learning.

We first met with Emma's teacher.  She said that Emma is doing really well, that she is very attentive and quick to listen and do as she is told.  I guess this is really a blessing for her teacher because she has a lot of really defiant kids in her class.

Another interesting piece of information is, Emma teacher will sometimes look on the playground to see what her students are up to.  She says that many times she will find Emma out with the 3rd and 4th grade boys playing flag tag.  Emma is in 2nd grade and she is on the smaller size.  It is neat to hear that my little Emma is a brave little Emma.

She met a girl in her class when she first started going to school and the girl made a club and you could only be in the club if you "dress fancy".  Well Emma must have figured that there is too much maintenance to be in the "fancy" club so she said that she didn't want to be in it.  And that was that.  I was so proud of her for just being her.  Soon after that she found a couple of girls that are really nice.

We then met with David's teacher.  I was very surprised to hear what she had to say.

David is very serious in class.  Absolutely no goofing off from him.  If the teachers asks him a question then he answers it and all is well.  But he will not laugh or crack a smile.

I asked David about this and he said, "You can't be funny at school Mom, you have to be serious."  I really have to laugh, because that sure isn't David!

Emma Rides her Bike

October 22, 2009

This is really quite funny... Emma has been wanting to learn how to ride her bike as a two wheel for quite some time.  I tried but it just wasn't working.  So, I put Pa in charge.  I figured it would be good on their relationships.  But it just wasn't working with Pa helping either.  That is until she saw a bike basket with a new bell.  Oh boy!! Did she ever want that!  So, I told her, If you want the basket and bell then you have to learn how to ride your bike and then we will get it for you.

The very next day, she was asking Pa to help her learn to ride her bike, she was asking him so much that she was really getting on his nerves.  It was kind of funny because I made sure that I had no responsibility in this was it was all on his shoulders... that doesn't happen too much around here.

Well, he finally got around to helping her and she got on that bike and he held on for a moment and she was off, she rode from then on  without any problems.

I didn't think she would learn that quickly, I thought I had a couple of weeks at least before I "had" to buy her the basket. So then she had to wait for it.  Until we had $$ in the bank.

Beans

Pa and I love Beans, burritos, beans and rice, even black beans in a green salad is very yummy, three bean pizza is good too.  Beans are just so yummy!

Problem is... we try to get the kids to enjoy beans as we do.  But, they just don't.

However... last night I tried a simple trick.  This is not my idea though, it came from Erleen Tilton.  What you do is blend the beans then mixed them into what ever, in our case last night we made ground beef, canned tomatoes and seasonings.  Put it in a tortilla and they ate it.  None of them complained.  They didn't eat very much, but they did eat it!!

They were all hungry about 30 minutes later but we made progress!!

It's a Talent

I am sure this happens to ALL of us at some time or another.

I get to a point where I just feel like I am not good at ANYTHING!!  It really is a sad feeling.

I can't dance.

I can't play the piano, or any musical instrument.

I can't keep myself or my kids on a schedule.

For some reason, I get on this "I can't" kick every now and then and just feel very useless.

Then one day I went out Visiting Teaching.  I get to visit with a wonderful lady who is in her 80's.  She considers herself to be homebound.  She is just so cheery and positive and just wonderful to be around.

So, I was visiting with her and telling her how I seem to get along with those that are older then me.  And that I really like that, because I am able to learn so much from them.  I told her that I have been blessed with being able to learn from other people's mistakes and have no desire to make the same mistake.  I was telling her how grateful I am that Heavenly Father has blessed me with this.

She then said, "It's a talent".

I looked at her with tears in my eyes and said, "do you really think so?"

She said, "Oh yes, I know so.  It is a talent!"

The more I think about it, it is a talent.  What a blessing it is to have such a wonderful talent.  It is also such a blessing that she pointed this out to me.

So what if I "can't" do the things that usually take some kind of training.  I have been blessed, I have talents.

I know that there are hidden talents that we all have, we just need to find them, recognize them and use them.
